5 Lost Inventions From Nicola Tesla That Could Have Changed Our World

Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) has become one of the most renowned scientists of our time and represents the quintessential “mad scientist”. Many of his ideas were deemed dangerous or impractical, and such inventions could fundamentally change society if released to the public. Sometimes those at the top of the social structure have more to gain by keeping the status quo, thereby suppressing revolutionary technologies favorable to the world.

1 Tesla’s Oscillator

In 1898, Tesla claimed he had built and deployed a small oscillating device that, when attached to his office and operating, nearly shook down the building and everything around it. Known as an “earthquake machine”,  he reportedly took a hammer to the oscillator to disable it, realizing the potential terrors. Mythbusters did build some kind of machine based on what was known, and although the device did generate a vibration that was felt hundreds of feet away, it wasn’t capable of serious damage.
